Trace Montgomery Federal Releases

No federal prison has been identified inside Montgomery County. Federal custody serving Montgomery County can still begin with a local arrest, a USMS placement in a county or contract jail, transport outside the county, or a later BOP designation after sentencing. A federal release lookup must follow the agency responsible at each stage. The federal docket and holding facility matter during pretrial custody. The BOP locator applies after federal designation. A result showing release from BOP does not rule out state, local, or immigration custody.

Montgomery Federal Custody Route

No BOP institution or other federal prison was verified within Montgomery County. That absence does not mean a federal defendant cannot be held locally. The U.S. Marshals Service manages many federal pretrial detention and transport arrangements and may place a person in a county, regional, or contract jail. The name may first appear in the holding facility's system rather than in a federal locator.

After sentencing and BOP designation, the federal record moves into the Bureau of Prisons system. A person can then be assigned to a prison outside Kansas, moved between BOP locations, placed in a residential reentry center, or released from BOP authority. Each stage has its own evidence. The custody path should be read in order rather than treating every disappearance from a local roster as release.

Search Montgomery Federal Custody

Begin by identifying whether the matter is federal. A county booking can involve a local charge, a federal warrant, or temporary custody for another authority. The MCSO release sheet may name USMS, BOP, or another receiving agency. A federal case number, register number, or reliable booking identifier sharply reduces mistaken matches.

  1. Check the local holding record for the booking number and receiving authority. Ask whether departure was a transfer under federal authority.
  2. Review the federal case docket for detention, release, sentencing, commitment, or designation entries.
  3. Contact the USMS District of Kansas when the person is in pretrial or transport custody and no public holding location is clear.
  4. After designation, search the BOP Inmate Locator by federal identifier or exact biographical details.
  5. If the result says released or not in BOP custody, check the docket and any state, local, or ICE receiving system before describing community release.

USMS has no nationwide public inmate locator comparable to BOP's. A missing BOP result during federal pretrial detention does not establish release.

Montgomery USMS Holding Records

USMS custody is often the hardest stage to locate because the agency may use another government's jail or a contract facility. The placement site can change during hearings, transport, or movement toward BOP designation. A county roster may identify USMS as the arresting or holding authority, but removal from that roster only shows that the local placement ended. It does not state that federal custody ended.

Use the federal docket to establish the next hearing, detention order, sentence, or commitment. Ask the last known facility whether custody transferred and whether the receiving authority can be named. The District of Kansas contact route can address the federal process, subject to security and privacy limits. After sentencing, allow for designation and intake before expecting the BOP public record to reflect the movement. The gap between local removal and BOP display should be described as unresolved movement, not release.

When requesting a formal USMS record, focus on one movement. Give the case number, date range, last known facility, and the exact fact needed, such as transfer date or receiving agency. A focused request reduces confusion with other custody episodes and gives the agency a clearer record search.

Montgomery BOP Search Fields

BOP's locator covers federal inmate records from 1982 to the present. An identifier search can use the BOP register number, DCDC number, FBI number, or INS number. A name search accepts first, middle, and last name with race, sex, and age refinements. Exact identifiers are better than a name alone.

Montgomery BOP Release Caveat

A BOP label of “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” means the Bureau of Prisons no longer holds the person. It does not establish that no state, county, immigration, or other law-enforcement authority has custody. BOP also warns that release dates can change, including after First Step Act recalculation. Treat the displayed date as the federal system's current record, not an unchangeable promise.

BOP's aggregate release statistics expressly separate releases to another custodial jurisdiction from releases into the community. The official BOP release-statistics explanation demonstrates that distinction.

BOP federal release custody caveat for Montgomery County cases

The custody categories shown by BOP reinforce why leaving one federal status cannot be read as freedom from every authority.

A residential reentry center also requires care. BOP materials describe such placement as part of the federal custody and reentry continuum before final community release, often several months before the last release. Confirm the actual status and supervising office rather than treating a location change as sentence completion.

Montgomery Federal Docket Check

The federal case docket supplies the legal sequence. It may document an initial appearance, detention hearing, conditions of release, revocation, plea, sentence, commitment, designation-related filing, or supervision action. A docket entry can explain why custody changed, while the holding or receiving agency confirms the physical movement.

Keep the dates distinct. A judge may sign an order before transport or administrative processing finishes. A sentence date is not automatically a BOP admission date. Likewise, a BOP release date may not reveal a later detainer. Use the federal case number and register number to connect legal and custodial sources.

Pretrial release
A court-authorized departure under federal conditions before final case disposition.
Commitment
A court order placing a sentenced person under federal custody.
Designation
BOP assignment to an institution or placement after sentencing.
Supervised release
Federal supervision after imprisonment, distinct from Kansas parole or probation.

Request Montgomery Federal Records

USMS provides a Freedom of Information Act request route for releasable agency records. A request should be narrow. Identify the full name, federal case number, known custody date, local holding facility, and the exact movement or release fact sought. Broad demands may face privacy, safety, law-enforcement, or ongoing-case limits.

Ask for a releasable custody movement, transfer destination, release date, or document that identifies the receiving authority. Request partial release with exempt material removed when possible. FOIA is a records process, not a real-time locator. For an urgent present-custody question, use the docket, holding facility, District of Kansas, and BOP locator first.

BOP Victim Notification System: 1-866-365-4986

BOP's victim resources describe a separate federal notification system for registered victims and witnesses. It may provide a release date, destination city and state, and the supervising U.S. Probation office where applicable. It is not Kansas VINE.

Notification and public lookup serve different roles. The locator presents public federal status fields. The Victim Notification System is an enrollment-based route for eligible registered recipients and may supply event details not offered as a general public alert. Neither one replaces the court docket or a receiving-jurisdiction check. If the notice and locator appear to conflict, confirm the person’s register number and ask the responsible federal office which event each message describes.

Montgomery ICE Transfer Distinction

An immigration handoff is not a BOP release route. If a Montgomery County or federal record names ICE as the receiving authority, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. Its A-number route requires the exact nine-digit number and country of birth. The biographical route uses name, date of birth, and country of birth. ODLS does not display minors.

No ICE detention center or county ICE contract was verified in Montgomery County. The receiving location may be elsewhere. A no-result in ODLS does not prove return to the community. Review the live locator guidance and contact the relevant Enforcement and Removal Operations field office when custody remains unclear.

This distinction is essential when a county roster name disappears. MCSO may have ended county custody, yet federal or immigration custody may have begun. The county release sheet should identify the handoff, and the receiving system should confirm it.

BOP and ICE identifiers are not interchangeable. An INS number may help with a BOP identifier search, while ODLS uses the immigration A-number format and country-of-birth data. Keep the source and number type with each result. A match in one system should not be assumed to be the same custody episode until name, date of birth, case facts, and movement dates align.

Verify Montgomery Federal Release

A sound result combines identity, legal authority, and physical custody. Record the name, federal identifier, case number, search date, BOP status, and any receiving agency. Do not collapse separate entries into a single “released” statement. A person can leave a county jail for USMS, move from USMS to BOP, leave BOP for another jurisdiction, and later begin federal supervision.

The Montgomery County released-inmate search covers the county record that may start this chain. It can help establish whether the local departure was a federal handoff before the federal systems are checked.

Note: Confirm the receiving authority whenever a federal result ends one custodian's role without clearly showing community release.
